That has a practical consequence: you pass through park control to reach the hotel. Confirm with your booking how the park ticket works in your case, because the rule for guests is not the same as for day visitors.

The building, the rooms and the restaurants

The hotel opened on 4 October 1958, in Portuguese colonial style. It is the pink building that shows up in photos of the falls, and it remains the only place to sleep inside the protected area.

Rooms fall into four categories: Rooms, Junior Suites, Suites and Signature Suites. The total number of units changes depending on the source you check (Belmond's own material says 176; the English Wikipedia says 193), so we do not state a figure here: confirm it when you book.

For food there are two restaurants and two bars: Y, serving creative Brazilian cooking, and Ipê, informal with grilled dishes, plus Bar Y, with a view of the falls, and Bar Tarobá.

Ownership changed along the way: Orient-Express bought it in 2007 and ran a US$20 million refurbishment completed in 2010, and it was renamed Belmond in 2014 when the group changed its name.

Can you see it without staying?

Yes. The bars, the restaurant and the spa also serve people visiting the park who are not guests. That is the cheap way into the building: sit on the veranda and see why it ends up in everyone's photos, paying the park ticket and whatever you order rather than a room rate.
