Best time to visit Iguazu Falls

PortuguêsEspañol

Maximum flow in summer, crisp photos in the dry season — there is no bad time

Iguazu Falls impress year-round, but they change character: from October to March (rainy season) the flow peaks and the spectacle is raw power; from July to September (dry season) the volume drops and the falls become more defined — great for photography. April to June balances good flow, mild weather and smaller crowds.

Summer / high water (October–March): rains fill the Iguazu River and the flow hits its peak — rising mist, roaring water, rain poncho mandatory on the walkways. The most dramatic visuals. Trade-off: strong heat (January easily tops 35°C / 95°F) and high season crowds.

Winter / dry season (July–September): lower flow reveals individual falls with more definition — photographers'' favorite. Mild days, chilly nights.

Shoulder season (April–June): the balance — still good flow, pleasant temperatures and fewer people. For many, the best window.

Worth knowing:

  • Flow changes week to week — the scenery is never the same
  • After heavy rain the water turns reddish-brown (sediment) and even more voluminous
  • Both parks are open year-round
