Duty Free in Puerto Iguazú: how it works for Brazilians

US$ 500 personal allowance, prices in dollars and installment payments — on the Argentine side of the bridge

The Duty Free Shop in Puerto Iguazú is located right after the Tancredo Neves Bridge, on the Argentine side, and sells perfumes, electronics, drinks and cosmetics with reduced taxes. Brazilians have a US$ 500 allowance per person at the shop — which adds to the US$ 500 allowance for purchases abroad, totaling up to US$ 1,000 tax-free per CPF.

Where it is: at the Argentine end of the Tancredo Neves Bridge — you can get there by car, taxi or on the international buses (which have their own stop). You don't need to go all the way into downtown Puerto Iguazú.

The allowance: US$ 500 per person on free shop merchandise. Since 2022, this allowance is separate from the traveler's allowance (another US$ 500 in purchases abroad by land) — in practice, up to US$ 1,000 per CPF combining the two. Went over? 50% tax on the excess.

Prices and payment: everything is priced in dollars. It accepts cash dollars, reais, pesos and cards (with IOF). The shop runs promotions with interest-free installments on specific dates.

What's usually worth it: imported perfumes, premium drinks, chocolates and cosmetics — compare with prices in Paraguay first; electronics are generally better in Ciudad del Este.

Documents: RG/CIN or passport — you cross the border to get there; see the documents for Puerto Iguazú.
