Avenue in Presidente Franco will remain two-way

Merchants and residents of Bernardino Caballero Avenue, especially those with establishments in the area near the Integration Bridge, spoke out again on Tuesday (July 21) requesting that the road continue operating in both directions and be expanded. The municipal mayor and city council members attended the event.

According to engineer Arévalos, there was confusion about the project's intention. "We don't understand why they are saying this. The Ministry of Public Works and Communications has the criterion that it should remain as it is," she stated. The Presidente Franco City Hall issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that there is no ordinance project to transform the avenue into a one-way street.

Local merchants support maintaining two-way traffic because they expect greater vehicle flow after the complete opening of the border crossing between Presidente Franco and Foz do Iguaçu, which would increase commercial activity in the region.

Regarding the expansion of the avenue, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications reported that it is not contemplated at the moment. The responsibility for presenting a new project for this work lies with the municipal administration. Previously, when defining the use of surplus funds from the second bridge with Brazil for complementary works, two alternatives were analyzed: expanding Bernardino Caballero or improving Monday Avenue, which connects Presidente Franco to the Los Cedrales district. The City Hall chose to invest in Monday Avenue.

Affected residents have maintained their request since the beginning of the East Metropolitan Corridor works, which extends from the Integration Bridge to Route P/02 in Minga Guazú.
