$12 billion project plans underground water extraction
The artificial intelligence data center in Yguazú, Alto Paraná, is expected to use 350,000 liters of water per day for cooling, according to environmental documents submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. The Iguazú AI City project, driven by Araico Corporation, has an estimated investment of US$12 billion in the first three years.

The data center dedicated to artificial intelligence operations is located in the district of Yguazú, Alto Paraná, about 2.5 km from the urban center. The initiative, called Iguazú AI City and led by Araico Corporation, plans to extract groundwater through 20 artesian wells to cool the equipment.
Environmental documents indicate that consumption will be 350,000 liters of water per day, which corresponds to 350 cubic meters daily. The site of the center covers roughly 87 hectares.
The environmental license was granted by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) in February 2026. The proposal includes a total investment of US$ 12 billion over the first three years, starting with a capacity of 6 megawatts (MW) and foreseeing expansion for greater energy demand.
Water extraction occurs in the basins of the Monday and Acaray rivers, which already experience high pressure due to human and economic uses, raising concerns about water resource management.
