Reforestation effort restores degraded space near the Americas Space
The Municipal Environment Department planted about 200 native tree seedlings on Thursday, July 16, in a permanent preservation zone along the Rio Iguaçu in Foz do Iguaçu. The work is part of an environmental recovery initiative in an area that had suffered degradation.

The reforestation took place in an area near the Americas Space. According to Murilo Colucci de Souza, director of Parks, Squares and Gardens, the site had undergone expropriation and demolition of illegal structures before the planting.
The seedlings used include pitanga, ipê, horse-whip and other native species, selected to restore the original environment prior to deforestation. All plant material was supplied by the Municipal Nursery.
The Municipal Nursery produces seedlings that are donated to the community every Thursday and also allocated to urban reforestation projects and permanent preservation areas. According to Souza, restoring these spaces is essential to prevent wildlife from moving into the urban perimeter in search of habitat, a phenomenon that occurs when native forests disappear.
