City aims to attract visitors with religious circuits, museums and festivals
Paraguay's capital, Ciudad del Este, is broadening its tourism offering to include culture, food and events, in addition to shopping. The initiative was highlighted by the Director of Tourism and International Relations of the Ciudad del Este City Hall.

The Ciudad del Este City Hall, in a statement to the press, said that shopping tourism remains the main segment, but that infrastructure investments and a year-long agenda of activities aim to draw visitors interested in culture and gastronomy.
Among the cultural points of interest, the religious circuit includes the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist temple, the mosque and the San Blas Cathedral, which is under renovation after a fire. The proximity of these sites allows them to be visited in a single day.
Local cuisine offers Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Arab and Middle-Eastern restaurants, as well as bars and cafés, with competitive prices that attract tourists from Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú.
The El Mensú Museum, housed in the city’s first administrative building, is open Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and features exhibitions on indigenous peoples, yerba-mate production, the city’s history and its pioneers.
The cultural calendar includes Museum Night, Christmas and New Year events, Crazy Week, Ecofest and other festivities throughout the year, as well as commemorative activities and tours of historic monuments.
The high tourist season runs from October to January, a period during which the local organization expects to receive more than 450,000 people during Black Friday, according to tourism-director estimates.
