The Hummingbird Garden is an urban courtyard dedicated to birdwatching, situated just a few blocks from the Puerto Iguazú bus terminal, practically in the city center.

Created by Marilene Moschen over 44 years ago as a family hobby of cultivating native plants, the space has evolved into an urban refuge that attracts visitors who want to observe and photograph birds without disturbing their natural behavior. Strategically placed benches allow guests to stay quiet, sip mate, and watch hummingbirds up close.

Although it is embedded in the urban area, the garden records 22 hummingbird species, more than 230 bird species, as well as a variety of butterflies, insects, and other organisms. The vegetation includes over 300 plant species, predominantly native, providing flowers, fruits, and seeds throughout the year.

The site collaborates with the Güirá Oga wildlife refuge for the care and rehabilitation of orphaned or injured hummingbirds, aiming to re-introduce the animals into the wild.

How to get there

  • From National Route 12, at the main roundabout, take the second exit and follow Victoria Aguirre Avenue for about 1 km.
  • Turn right onto Tareferos Street for one block, then turn left onto Fray Luis Beltrán Street.
  • The garden is about 500 m ahead, on the right-hand side, at number 150 Fray Luis Beltrán Street.

Opening hours

  • Open from 10:00 to 18:00. Weather and bird season can affect the visit; guides indicate that the best months for observation are between April and May.

Admission is paid on site, in cash, and the proceeds go toward the maintenance of the family garden and feeding the birds.
