City aims to expand holiday attractions beyond downtown with R$ 2 million budget
The Cultural Foundation of Foz do Iguaçu presented on Wednesday, September 10, a plan to turn the 2026 Christmas season into a tourist attraction, integrating public and private entities. The goal is to bring decoration, lighting and artistic programming to the entire city, not just the downtown area.

The proposal was presented to the Commercial and Business Association of Foz do Iguaçu (Acifi) and aims to revive holiday enthusiasm, highlight local identity and create activities for residents, visitors and artists in public spaces throughout December.
The municipality allocated approximately R$ 2 million for the Christmas season. The Cultural Foundation is already working on a tender to hire decoration and lighting services, as well as artistic and cultural programming with activities for families and children.
With the support of partnerships, the intention is to expand actions to the neighborhoods, bringing ambience and attractions beyond the central district. According to Sérgio Teixeira, Culture Director of the Cultural Foundation, the project revives the "Christmas of Waters and Lights" initiative, which ran from 2021 to 2023. At that time, the Friendship Bridge featured light projections in the colors of Brazil and Paraguay, and in 2023 more than 100,000 people attended the attractions.
The flow of people during the holiday period benefits merchants, artists, restaurants, bars, artisans and other sectors. The Cultural Foundation has already raised resources for events such as Foz Folia (55,000 people over five days), the 46th Fartal (53,000 visitors) and the 21st International Book Fair (35,000 people over four days).
