Gasoline at the border: is it worth fueling in Argentina?

The ANP average indicates that regular gasoline in Foz do Iguaçu is R$ 6.42 per liter in the week of July 5 to 11, 2026, keeping the price stable compared to the previous week. Premium gasoline in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, costs 2,276 pesos per liter; using the parallel market rate (1 US$ = 1,510 ARS) and the official exchange rate (1 US$ = R$ 5.11), the converted price reaches R$ 7.71 per liter, i.e., 20% more expensive than in Brazil.

The conversion was done in two steps: first, the price in pesos was divided by the parallel market rate (2,276 ARS ÷ 1,510 ARS/US$ ≈ 1.51 US$); then, the dollar amount was multiplied by the official real rate (1.51 US$ × R$ 5.11/US$ ≈ R$ 7.71). This methodology ensures that the comparison reflects the real cost for those paying in reais in Argentina.

For drivers traveling between Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú, the decisive factor is usually fuel price. Even considering extra toll costs and possible consumption differences on border roads, the R$ 1.29 per liter gap can represent a significant saving on long trips.

What this means for you: If you plan to travel more than 200 km between the border and inland destinations, fueling in Foz do Iguaçu tends to be more economical; if the trip is short or you are already in Puerto Iguazú, the higher price of premium gasoline may be offset by the convenience of not having to cross the border to refuel.
