Guia 3 newsroom · edited by Annie GrellmannPortuguêsEspañol
With the real falling 1.9% in Paraguay, the dollar rate in reais (R$ 5.19) is among the highest in the 138-day series, meaning your money goes farther less when you shop in Paraguay.
For those who cross the border looking to shop, the purchasing power of the real in Paraguay dropped 1.9% between 2026-09-01 and 2026-10-02. The official dollar rate in reais (US$ 1 = R$ 5.19) is among the highest in our 138-day series, indicating a weak moment for the real.
In Ciudad del Este, the real is worth 1.126 guaraníes (R$ 1 = 1.126 guaraníes) and 293 Argentine pesos (R$ 1 = 293 pesos). So, if you exchange reais for guaraníes, each real buys 1.126 guaraníes, while in Argentine pesos each real buys 293 pesos.
What this means for you: If you plan to buy electronics, clothing or other items in Paraguay, the real is more expensive than in previous periods. To maximize your purchasing power, consider exchanging your reais for dollars before crossing, since the dollar rate is high. It is also wise to compare prices in Argentine pesos, as the real has greater buying power there.
