Dollar could fall below G. 5,000 with investments and record harvest

According to the head of the Exchange Houses Association, in January 2025 the dollar was around G. 7,900 and closed that year near G. 6,500, which represented an approximate decline of 17%. In 2026 the currency started around G. 6,500 and currently hovers around G. 5,700, with a reduction of about 12%.

He attributes the downward trend to greater availability of foreign currency in the local market, driven by the influx of dollars destined for investments in sectors such as construction, livestock and laboratories, as well as the strong performance of Paraguayan exports.

The record soybean harvest of the 2025/2026 season boosted exports, which grew about 25% by the end of September, while imports increased roughly 15%. This gap favors the supply of dollars in the country.

The association’s president warned that if a soybean harvest similar to the last cycle repeats in 2027, the downward trend could continue and push the dollar to values near G. 5,000 or even lower, although this level cannot be guaranteed for the next year, as it will depend on export behavior, foreign capital inflows and dollar supply.

Regarding the exchange sector, he reported that exchange houses recorded an approximate 20% reduction in inflows compared to 2025, despite the growth of legal transactions. The lower exchange rate could, however, benefit local trade and other sectors of the economy.
