Foz de Iguazú negotiates direct flight with Xiamen for 2027

The State of Paraná is actively negotiating with Xiamen Airlines to create a direct air route linking Xiamen to Foz de Iguazú, with a planned start in 2027. If approved, the initiative would represent a significant leap in long-distance connectivity for the Triple Frontier.

The project, still in a cautious phase, initially envisions charter flights as a pilot test to assess Chinese demand before establishing regular frequencies. Technical details—dates, seat numbers, and frequencies—will be defined in November, when the Paraná government conducts an official mission to China.

The proposal aims to tap the potential of long-distance tourism, as travelers from distant markets often explore the region in an integrated manner. Foz de Iguazú, with its high-quality hotels and distinctive cuisine, is well positioned to attract this flow of high-spending tourists.

The challenge for operators and promotion agencies, such as the Iguazú Tourism Municipal Authority, will be to create culturally adapted integrated circuits for Chinese tourists and to streamline border procedures to convert interest into actual stays in Argentina.

The expectation is that, should negotiations progress, the presence of a direct route will reshape the marketing models of inbound tourism in the area.
