Itaipu warns of Paraná River flood in Foz do Iguaçu

The Special Flood Commission of Itaipu Binacional released a hydrological bulletin this Sunday (October 11) forecasting a rapid rise in the Paraná River level, with possible damage to structures and houses on the Brazilian side.

On Sunday around 10 a.m., the river gauge was at 110.4 meters at the Friendship Bridge in Foz do Iguaçu (PR). According to the projections, the level should reach 115.10 meters on Monday (12) and 115.14 meters on Tuesday (13).

The hydroelectric plant reported that municipal and state Civil Defense authorities in the areas near the river have been notified about the risks. The new flow calculations and river gauges for the Paraná and Iguaçu rivers incorporate the intense precipitation recorded in the watersheds over the past 24 hours, resulting in a significant increase in the discharges of both watercourses and contributing to the rise of the Paraná level.
