Equipment transmits real-time data to improve navigation
Itaipu Binacional has put into operation two wave-measuring buoys to measure wave behavior in the reservoir of the hydroelectric plant located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. Data collected via satellite helps assess the influence of winds on the plant's operations.

The pilot project, developed by Itaipu's Engineering and Information Technology teams, uses the equipment to record wave height, period, and direction of propagation. Information is transmitted in real time to the plant's Technical Directorate.
Data from the wave-measuring buoys are analyzed together with measurements from wind stations distributed along the reservoir. This combination allows for a more accurate assessment of how meteorological conditions influence wave formation, improving the planning of operations on the lake.
