Joint visit with U.S. deputy secretary highlights cooperation at the Triple Border
On October 22, 2026, the president inaugurated the new counter-terrorism company of the Armed Forces at the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Division in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. The event was attended by the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, as well as Paraguayan military officials.
The new counter-terrorism company was put into operation at the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Division in Ciudad del Este, as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen security in the Triple Border region. During the visit, the deputy secretary highlighted Paraguay’s progress in security and the need for a larger presence of trained personnel to confront terrorism and transnational organized crime.
The president stated that the deployment was funded by the Paraguayan government, while the training of personnel received support from the United States. He linked the unit to a broader plan that includes, slated for 2027, the acquisition of patrols, ballistic vests, Super Tucano aircraft, and radar systems.
The official delegation also included the Minister of National Defense, the Commander of the Military Forces, and representatives from the Special Forces Command and the Logistics Command. After the ceremony, the president and the deputy secretary proceeded to a technical visit to the Itaipu hydroelectric plant in Hernandarias.
