Health Department trains Primary Care professionals to improve maternal care
The Municipal Health Department of Foz do Iguaçu held, on July 7, a training with about 95 Primary Care doctors focused on the clinical management and diagnosis of pregnant women with complications. The event took place at the Haroldo Alvarenga Cultural Station and aimed to strengthen care pathways and reduce maternal and infant mortality in the municipality.

The qualification brought together professionals to discuss care protocols, emphasizing more complex situations that are also managed in Primary Care. According to Geiza Lemos Hein Sant Anna, coordinator of the Maternal, Women and Family Planning Care Line, continuous training of teams is essential to strengthen assistance to pregnant women and contribute to health indicators and quality of life.
The program started with an analysis of the local maternal‑infant scenario, addressing the main causes of maternal deaths, postpartum deaths and deaths of children under one year. Then, participants debated care pathways for pregnant women with gestational diabetes and attended a lecture on the diagnosis and treatment of gestational hypertension.
The speakers were Tatiana Souza Alves and Edward Frasson, gynecologists and obstetricians from Hospital Itamed, as well as Lara Camila de Oliveira, a nurse from Epidemiological Surveillance. The schedule included a theatrical activity to sensitize professionals on the topics and concluded with the application of the Team‑Based Learning methodology, discussing clinical cases and solving practical situations.
