Parque das Aves counted individuals in Gramadão da Vila A on October 17, 2026
On October 17, 2026, Parque das Aves conducted a census of true parrots (Amazona aestiva) in the Gramadão da Vila A area of Foz do Iguaçu (PR). The count, which began at 5 p.m., recorded 472 individuals of the species.
The survey was part of the urban monitoring series promoted by Parque das Aves and involved participation from the local community. The goal was to observe the presence of the species in the collective roosting area of the Gramadão, where the birds gather at dusk to rest.
In the previous edition, carried out at the same site, 557 true parrots were counted, according to Parque das Aves. The new census adds an important record for understanding how the urban space is used over time.
Marina Somenzari, Conservation Manager at Parque das Aves, highlighted that public collaboration helps bring scientific knowledge closer to people and reinforces the importance of conserving urban biodiversity.
The event coincided with the 32nd anniversary celebrations of Parque das Aves, which offered free admission to Foz do Iguaçu residents from October 1 to October 31, upon presentation of the required documentation.
