Purchasing power · inflation
Over the past year, prices rose 4.4% in Brazil and 31.7% in Argentina, but high inflation doesn't make a country cheap for outsiders.
12-month cumulative inflation.
Argentina held its exchange rate below inflation, so the peso appreciated in real terms and the country became EXPENSIVE in reais and dollars. Today the flow is the reverse of years past: it's Argentines who cross to shop in Foz and Ciudad del Este, for Brazilians, much of the Argentine side no longer pays off. Before deciding, compare the FINAL price on both sides.
