What to check before booking

Budget places vary a lot in what is included. Before you commit, check:

• Breakfast. Included or not changes the cost of your whole day.
• Air conditioning. Between November and March in Foz, that is not a luxury.
• The real distance to the TTU, measured on a map rather than in the listing text. "Close to the centre" can mean a forty-minute walk.
• The cancellation policy, because travel dates move.
• A fixed address and genuine reviews. Prefer registered businesses.

When prices climb
