Cycling in Foz do Iguaçu: where to ride and what the ticket already covers

Direct answer: The ride worth the trip is inside the National Park: the Falls cycleway and the 9 km Poço Preto path allow bikes and are already covered by the ticket at R$ 134 (R$ 121 on the Brazil and Mercosur rate). In the city, a bike is for short hops, with care for traffic and heat.

Update, 18 Oct 2026: because of the Iguaçu river flood, the main walkway (since 11 Oct), the lower Espaço Naipi viewpoint, the São João circuit, Espaço Usina, the Poço Preto path and the Canafístula trail are closed. The Bananeiras path is closed for works, not because of the flood. The park stays open, with the Falls Trail and the upper viewpoints. Inside the park: the best stretch

What almost nobody knows is that cycling in the National Park costs nothing beyond the ticket. Two options:

• Poço Preto path: 9 km through Atlantic Forest, with an observation tower along the way. On foot it takes about 4 hours; by bike, a fraction of that, which completely changes how the day is planned.
• Falls cycleway: a dedicated cycling route inside the park.

Both require booking a day and time when you buy online, because entry is subject to slots. And the window differs by mode: on foot, Poço Preto usually opens in the morning; by bike, the schedule is more generous.

In the city: what to expect

Foz has cycleways on some avenues and rental services, and bikes work well for short hops, like moving around downtown or riding to the riverfront.

What they do not solve is the attractions corridor. Avenida das Cataratas is a heavy-traffic highway, with tour coaches and lorries, and the distances are long: it is around 14 km from downtown to the National Park entrance. For that leg, the R$ 5 line 120 is safer and faster: bus to the Falls.

Heat and the right hour

The UV index here is high for much of the year, and summer regularly passes 30 degrees. The comfortable riding window is early morning, which also coincides with the park's opening and the quietest trails.

What to bring
