Where to watch the sunset in Foz do Iguaçu

Direct answer: The Three Borders Landmark is the classic: the sun sets over the meeting of the Iguaçu and Paraná rivers, with all three countries in view. But it opens at 14:00 and closes on Mondays. And watch out for the most common mistake: the National Park closes at 17:30, before sunset for much of the year. The evening happens outside the falls.

First, what time the sun actually sets

And here is the rule almost nobody knows: all three countries share UTC-3 since Paraguay adopted a single year-round time in 2024, so the clock does not change when you cross the bridge. Three Borders Landmark: the classic, with a catch

This is where the Iguaçu and Paraná rivers meet, and where the three obelisks appear together, each in its country's colours.

• Tuesday to Sunday, 14:00 to 21:00. Usually daily in high season.
• R$ 60 full price (R$ 57 plus R$ 3 for the Iguaçu Fund); half price R$ 31.50. Children up to 5 and Foz residents with proof go free.
• The cultural shows from the three countries run in the early evening, included in the ticket.

What does NOT work for sunset

Iguaçu National Park. It closes at 17:30, with last entry at 16:00. In June the sun still sets at 17:56, and in summer much later. There is no sunset on the walkways.

Itaipu after dark. The panoramic tour has its own hours and finishes before nightfall, and Itaipu Illuminated is paused: the last show was on 8 August 2026 and the attraction is being upgraded to LED, expected back in 2027. Status in Itaipu Illuminated.

The free alternatives

• Paraná riverfront and Gramadão da Vila A: open space, no ticket and no closing time, facing the Paraná river. This is where the city goes.

• Friendship Bridge from a distance: if you are on the Paraguayan side at the end of the day, you get the Paraná river with the bridge backlit.

After dark
