What time is it in Paraguay and Argentina? The confusion is over

Since 2024 Paraguay adopted the fixed GMT-3 time zone — the same time in all three cities
There's no longer a time difference between Foz do Iguaçu, Ciudad del Este, and Puerto Iguazú: since October 2024, a law set Paraguay's time to the permanent GMT-3 zone, the same as Brasília and Argentina. When it's noon in Foz, it's noon on all three sides of the border, all year long.
For decades, the question "what time is it in Paraguay?" confused everyone at the border: Paraguay switched to daylight saving time on different dates than Brazil, and the 1-hour difference came and went throughout the year.
That's over. In late 2024, a law passed by the Paraguayan Congress set the country's official time to the GMT-3 zone, the same as Brasília and Buenos Aires — permanent, with no daylight saving time.
In practice:
- Foz do Iguaçu (BR), Ciudad del Este (PY), and Puerto Iguazú (AR): the same time, all year
- No clock adjustment when crossing any of the bridges
- Hours for shops, buses, and tours are the same on all three sides
Why do some sites still say otherwise? A lot of old content online still explains the previous rule (Paraguay GMT-4 with daylight saving time). If a guide or blog mentions a "1-hour difference," it's outdated.
