Marco Três newsroom · edited by Annie Grellmann
The two symbols of multicultural Foz — and neither charges admission
The Chen Tien Buddhist Temple is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque welcomes visitors Monday to Friday (9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m.) and Saturday morning — both with free admission. They are the two portraits of multicultural Foz, a city with more than 80 nationalities.
Chen Tien Buddhist Temple (Rua Dr. Josivalter Vila Nova, 99 — Jardim Califórnia):
- Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. · free
- Built by the Chinese community, opened in 1996
- More than a hundred statues in the garden, with views of the Paraná river and Ciudad del Este
- Photos only in the outdoor area; not inside the temple
Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque (Rua Meca, 599 — Jardim Central):
- Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m.; Saturday half-day · free
- A symbol of the Arab community of Foz, one of the largest in Brazil
- Dress code: men no shorts above the knee; women in long pants or a long skirt (scarves available at the entrance)
Itinerary tip: both are off the Falls route and make for a cultural half-day — combine them with downtown and the city's Arab cuisine.
