What to do in Foz do Iguaçu on a Sunday morning

Direct answer: Sunday morning in Foz means the Feirinha da JK (Av. Juscelino Kubitschek, next to Praça da Paz, 7am to 1pm) for a breakfast of fried pastel and sugarcane juice, then any of the parks, which open early: Iguaçu Falls 8:30am, Parque das Aves 8:30am and Itaipu 8:30am. What does not work in the morning: the Three Borders Landmark, which opens only at 2pm, the Mosque, closed on Sundays, and the shops of Ciudad del Este, with roughly 10% of stores open.

Start at the Feirinha da JK

The Feirinha da JK runs every Sunday on Avenida Juscelino Kubitschek, next to Praça da Paz, from 7am to 1pm. It covers nearly 3,000 m² of craft stalls, food trailers and kiosks.

What you eat there: pastel fried to order, sugarcane juice, boiled corn, tapioca, esfiha and other Arab savouries, Bahian food, cake and coffee. Local growers also sell vegetables, honey, cheese and preserves.

It is worth it for two reasons. First, the price: this is the cheapest breakfast in the city, nothing like a hotel bill. Second, it is the one stop on the itinerary where you eat alongside people who live in Foz, rather than at a table of tourists. Arrive between 8 and 9, when it is full and everything is still there.

After the market, what is already open

The most efficient combination is market early, then the Falls or Parque das Aves. Both sit on the same side of the city, and city bus Line 120 links the centre to both.

What does NOT open in the morning

• Three Borders Landmark: 2pm to 9pm only. It is a late-afternoon outing, built around sunset and the cultural show. Going in the morning is a wasted trip.
• Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque: receives visitors Monday to Saturday, not on Sundays.
• Itaipu Ecomuseum and Biological Refuge: closed Tuesdays, but open Sunday. Confirm your session time.

What about crossing the border on Sunday?
