Reduced Water Flow Allows Normal Operation of the Park Over the Weekend

Nearly 7,000 Tourists Visit Iguazu Falls in Puerto Iguazú

The Iguazu National Park received almost 7,000 visitors last weekend, who were able to traverse the 275 drops of the waterfall located in the Misiones jungle, in the province of Misiones, Argentina. On Monday, the river recorded 6,460 cubic meters per second, more than four times the historical average, according to Copel, but the downward trend in water level allowed the circuits to reopen.

All routes were available to the public, except for the Garganta del Diablo, which remained closed. The boat crossing to Salto San Martín also operated normally.

The reduction in flow follows the drop in river level, which reached 15,900 cubic meters per second the previous week, forcing the closure of the walkways. Since Wednesday, all tours have been restored and the forecast indicates that good conditions will be maintained until Thursday, when new rainfall is expected.

In Puerto Iguazú, tourists have more than 30 attractions to enjoy in case the walkways close again. Across the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, there are also tourist options while waiting for the flow to drop.

The city’s hydrometer showed a drop in river level, stabilizing at 30.6 meters on Monday, after reaching 33 meters the previous Thursday. On the Argentine side, in Andresito, the level fell from 7.7 meters to 3.90 meters.

Authorities warn that the El Niño phenomenon makes the season unpredictable, but as long as safety conditions are met, tours will continue to operate normally.
