Itaipu generated 233 GWh on August 5, 2026 – 13% above average

The measurement by the National System Operator (ONS) indicates that on August 5, 2026, the Itaipu Dam produced 233 GWh (gigawatt-hour, the unit that represents the energy needed to power 1 billion watts for one hour). Most of the generated energy is destined for Brazil’s National Interconnected System, and almost all of Paraguay’s consumption is supplied by the plant’s power, although it does not exactly represent 50% of total generation.

The output was 13% above the historical average of 207 GWh/day, meaning the reservoir was at a favorable level and the flow of the Paraná River allowed a performance superior to the usual. Each GWh equals the daily consumption of roughly 200 thousand households; thus, 233 GWh would be enough to supply about 1.2 million homes for an entire day.
