Paraná River reaches 23.71 m: what it means for visitors to Ciudad del Este
Guia 3 newsroom · edited by Annie GrellmannPortuguêsEspañol
The Paraná River level reached 23.71 m at the ANA station, exceeding 99% of readings since 05/12/2026.
The 23.71 m measurement was taken at station 64918000, located 7.5 km upstream of the Friendship Bridge. Flow (or level) indicates the water height relative to a fixed reference at the station itself. This height is well above the historical median of the series, which is 7.31 m.
In flood situations, the first area to be affected is the low zone of Ciudad del Este, which lies along the riverbanks. The Friendship Bridge and the city’s downtown are at higher elevations, so they are not directly impacted by this level.
For those planning to cross the border or tour Ciudad del Este, it is wise to check the status of low-lying areas before heading out. Consult the /cataratas-hoje page or the official channels of the Ciudad del Este municipality for up-to-date information on possible access restrictions or temporarily closed areas.
What this means for you: if you intend to visit Ciudad del Este in the coming days, verify whether the low-lying areas near the river are open and, if there is a flood risk, adjust your itinerary to focus on the bridge, downtown, or higher-elevation attractions.
