Iguazu Falls Walkway Closed Due to High Flow
Guia 3 newsroom · edited by Annie GrellmannPortuguêsEspañol
Closure follows flow reaching nearly eight times historic average
On October 13, 2026, the walkway that allows visitors to get close to the Iguazu Falls in Foz do Iguaçu (PR) was closed for safety reasons due to the increased flow of the Iguaçu River. The closure also affected the Bananeiras and Poço Preto trails, while park visitation continues normally via other trails and viewpoints.

The restriction was implemented after the Iguaçu River flow reached approximately 11.8 million liters per second, a value almost eight times the historic average recorded for the period.
The Bananeiras and Poço Preto routes were temporarily closed, but visitors can still access the Falls Trail and the park's viewpoints.
According to Simepar, between midnight on October 11 and 10 a.m. on October 12, Paraná recorded 22,179 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. Cascavel led the count with 1,277 discharges, followed by Terra Roxa (1,075) and Palotina (902). In total, 63 municipalities in Paraná had more than 100 strikes each during the same period.
The reopening of the walkway will depend on the reduction of water volume and a technical assessment by the site managers.
