Tourism Recovery in Puerto Iguazú in July

Puerto Iguazú finished July with a positive balance for tourism activity, driven by the winter lull. In the last week of the month, the average hotel occupancy reached 83%, and Iguazú National Park surpassed 143,000 visitors, highlighting a strong recovery in the second half.

Amid high tourist influx, the concessionaire Iguazú Argentina S.A. requested the National Parks Administration authorization to begin the preventive retraction of the Devil’s Throat Circuit walkways, in response to projected river rises in the Iguazú associated with the El Niño phenomenon. The decision is based on technical analyses that anticipate high flows in September and October, with potential for extraordinary flooding.

The protocol presented by Iguazú Argentina S.A. calls for the removal of walkways and railings from the circuit, preserving them for later reinstallation. The preventive retraction operation will begin on August 3 and will be carried out progressively, with each component being transferred to a secure area at the Devil’s Throat railway station, where it will remain stored until the river conditions allow the reassembly of the walkways.
