How to spot a trustworthy place
General tips to shop, eat and stay well at the border, no surprises.
- Prefer businesses with a fixed address and real structure; avoid street vendors and stalls.
- Watch out for names similar to the famous stores: name copying is common.
- Don't follow “street guides” who approach tourists on the sidewalk; look for official info.
- For electronics, test the product and check the receipt and warranty before leaving.
- Agree on the price and payment method upfront; be wary of deals that seem too good.
On the way back, mind Brazil's customs allowance, see the border shopping & allowance guide.
