Foz do Iguaçu with kids: the itinerary that works by age

Direct answer: Two age rules shape the itinerary: children up to 6 go free at Iguaçu National Park, and Itaipu's Special Circuit does not admit under-14s, even accompanied. Beyond that, the main route is flat, paved and pushchair-friendly.

The age rules that change the plan

In other words: a family with small children who wants Itaipu should take the Panoramic plus the Refuge, not the Special Circuit. Detail in Itaipu with kids.

A day at the Falls with children

The Brazilian-side trail is paved, the internal buses are adapted, and the Visitor Centre lends wheelchairs free of charge, which also helps with a tired child. The whole circuit takes 3 to 4 hours at family pace.

Arriving at opening, 9:00 on weekdays and 8:30 at weekends, solves two problems at once: fewer queues and less heat.

What works best by age

Up to 5: Parque das Aves (flat, shaded trail, 1h30 to 2h), Bosque Guarani zoo (free, downtown, 1h) and Itaipu's Biological Refuge, which ends with planting a native tree.

6 to 11: the full Falls circuit, Dinosaur Valley (R$ 159 standalone, though a three-attraction combo is R$ 149) and the Lake Itaipu beach in the warm months.

12 and over: this opens up Macuco Safari (R$ 384), rafting (R$ 219) and the Iguaçu Canyon activities. Itaipu's Special Circuit becomes possible at 14.

The days none of this works

Monday: the Three Borders Landmark closes. Tuesday: the Bela Vista Biological Refuge closes. In both cases the rest keeps running, but the classic late afternoon with children, which is the Landmark, needs another plan.

Crossing the border with children

A minor with both guardians crosses on ID alone. With one, the other must authorise. And note the limit: Brazil's electronic authorisation covers up to age 16; from 16 to 18 it must be notarised. Detail in child travel authorisation.
