Hito Tres Fronteras, Güira Oga, La Aripuca, and the Duty Free in a one-day route

Puerto Iguazú offers far more than the Falls. Within a few kilometers you can visit the three-borders lookout, a native-wildlife refuge, a Guaraní theme park, and the border-crossing duty free — all reachable by car, taxi, or local bus.

Visitors who cross to the Argentine side often think only of the Falls, but Puerto Iguazú has four stops that fit into a single day and sit almost entirely along the same road (National Route 12). Here is an honest route, with hours and rules checked against official sources — and, where prices vary a lot, a note to confirm before you go.

1. Hito Tres Fronteras (Three Borders Landmark)

The spot where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay face each other across the meeting of the Iguazú and Paraná rivers. On the Argentine side there are obelisks painted in each flag's colors, a lookout over the confluence, an artisan fair, and a view of the Tancredo Neves Bridge. Sunset is the best time to go.

  • Where it is: a few blocks from downtown. Along Avenida Tres Fronteras, which starts at Plaza San Martín, it's about 2 km (a 15- to 20-minute walk).
  • How to get there: on foot, by taxi, or by local bus.
  • Access: access to the lookout on the Argentine side is free and open every day, according to the Iguazú Turismo portal. Nearby attractions (boat rides, restaurants, evening shows) carry their own cost — check the price first if you plan to do them.

2. Güira Oga — wildlife refuge

A rescue, rehabilitation, and release center for native Atlantic-rainforest fauna, running since 1997. The guided visit features toucans, macaws, capuchin monkeys, caimans, and big cats that cannot return to the wild.

  • Where it is: National Route 12, km 1638, about 5 km from downtown, on the way to the Falls.
  • Hours: daily, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. First visit at 10:00 a.m.; last departure at 4:30 p.m.
  • Duration: about 1.5 hours, with groups formed every 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Tickets: sold in person, with a guide and small groups. Prices vary by visitor type (Argentine residents, children, Misiones residents, and foreigners pay different rates) and change often — confirm the current price on Iguazú Turismo or through the refuge's contacts before you go.

3. La Aripuca — Guaraní theme park

A cultural park whose main structure is inspired by the aripuca, a traditional Guaraní trap, built from reclaimed native timber. It has interpretive trails, wooden handicrafts, a restaurant with regional flavors, an ice-cream shop, and a café.

  • Where it is: National Route 12, km 4.5.
  • Hours: daily, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Admission: the official site aripuca.com.ar does not publish the admission price; check the current 2026 fare on the site or through the park's contacts before you go.

4. Duty Free Shop Puerto Iguazú

The land-border duty free sits within the border-crossing area, heading toward Brazil. To enter you must register your exit with the customs of your country of origin (Argentina or Brazil), so bring ID.

  • Where it is: National Route 12, km 1645.5 (border crossing).
  • Hours (Argentina time): Sunday to Thursday, 12:00 to 8:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. On holidays, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • How to get there: by car, taxi, or bus heading to the border.
  • Important: the shop states there is no purchase limit for non-commercial use, but import allowances depend on your destination country's rules. Check with customs / AFIP before buying.

Route tip

Start early at Güira Oga and La Aripuca (both on Route 12 toward the Falls), stop at the Duty Free on your way back, and end the day at the Hito Tres Fronteras for sunset over the three countries.
