The hand-palm recognition technology was inaugurated on the International Friendship Bridge, which connects Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) to Ciudad del Este (Paraguay). According to the Federal Revenue, the equipment significantly reduces processing time compared to traditional identification methods.

User flow varied throughout the inaugural day. At 7 a.m., only 29 people used the kiosks. As the day progressed, usage grew, reaching 770 crossings at 3 p.m. This pattern shows both the acceptance of the new technology and the typical traffic dynamics at the border, where residents, workers, tourists and shoppers cross the bridge at different times.

The pilot project uses each individual’s unique biometric characteristics for identification, replacing traditional documents. The Federal Revenue is evaluating expanding the system to other customs points and border crossings if results remain positive. Data collected during the testing phase will guide future implementations or operational adjustments.
