Real gains strength at the border: +2.5% Argentina and +0.1% Paraguay

Between June 29 and July 30, 2026 the real appreciated against the Argentine peso by 2.5% (meaning the real yields more) and gained 0.1% against the Paraguayan guaraní. The dollar exchange rate, used as a reference, remained at R$ 5.12, positioning itself in the middle range of the 74-day series – neither a peak nor a trough.

Real and peso are the official currencies of Brazil and Argentina; guaraní is the currency of Paraguay. When we say the real “yielded more,” it means that with the same amount of reais you can buy more pesos or guaranís than before.

For those who cross the Triple Frontier to shop, the real’s rise in Argentina can lower the cost of imported goods, electronics and clothing, while the modest appreciation in Paraguay has a smaller impact. However, the dollar is still at R$ 5.12, so anyone paying in dollars (for example, in duty-free stores) does not feel a large variation.

What this means for you:

• In Argentina, bring slightly fewer reais for the same amount of purchases – the 2.5% appreciation can represent up to R$ 30 less on a R$ 1,200 purchase.
• In Paraguay, the difference is minimal; keep the same amount of guaranís you usually bring.
• Check the dollar rate before using cards or paying in dollars, as it remains stable at R$ 5.12.
