Duplication of BR-469 in Foz to finish by end of September

The work, carried out by the Government of Paraná in partnership with the Union, is in the closing phase. Once paving is finished, efforts will focus on finishing touches and specific interventions needed for delivery.

One of the last issues to be resolved is access to Foz do Iguaçu International Airport. The project underwent changes due to land-expropriation problems. For travelers leaving the city toward the National Park and needing to return, the new turnaround point will be between 300 and 400 meters from the originally planned location.

The change prompted questions from tourism-sector entities. In a letter dated August 13 to the Municipal Council of Traffic and Transport (CMTT), the National Department of Infrastructure and Transportation (DNIT) stated that it had not approved the alterations to airport access or the turnarounds outlined in the project. DER-PR justified the change by citing pending land issues.

BR-469 is a federal highway, but the duplication is the responsibility of the State of Paraná. DNIT monitors and oversees the work, resuming management of the segment after completion. The road is one of the main corridors of Foz do Iguaçu, connecting the urban area to the airport and the Iguaçu National Park. During construction, traffic detours and changes have affected residents, workers and tourists.
