Fuel price in Puerto Iguazú rises, reducing appeal

Neighboring nations seek lower prices at the Triple Frontier
Fuel prices in Puerto Iguazú increased in the first days of October, making Argentina less attractive for drivers of the Triple Frontier. Paraguayan and Brazilian consumers are looking to refuel in neighboring countries for lower rates.
Fuel prices in Puerto Iguazú rose again in October, reducing the appeal that Argentina offered to Triple Frontier drivers. At Shell stations, Super Gasoline costs 2,322 Argentine pesos per liter (≈ G. 8,940), V-Power 2,651 pesos (≈ G. 10,206), Formula Diesel 2,525 pesos (≈ G. 9,721) and Diesel V-Power 2,799 pesos (≈ G. 10,776). At YPF, Super Gasoline is 2,257 pesos (≈ G. 8,690), Infinia 2,502 pesos (≈ G. 9,633), Diesel 500 2,438 pesos (≈ G. 9,386) and Infinia Diesel 2,668 pesos (≈ G. 10,272). The exchange rate used was G. 3.85 per Argentine peso.
Comparing with Paraguayan prices, Petropar offers 93 Octane gasoline at G. 7,490, 97 Octane at G. 8,990 and Porã Diesel at G. 8,785. Thus, YPF’s Argentine Super Gasoline already exceeds the price of Paraguayan 93 Octane and approaches the price of 97 Octane. The scenario puts Paraguay and Brazil in a favorable position in the competition for border consumers.
With Argentine prices rising and tax adjustments expected in November, Puerto Iguazú may lose even more appeal as a refueling destination, especially for those making frequent trips across the Triple Frontier.
