Project envisions superintelligence infrastructure starting in 2027
On Wednesday, October 21, the United States Department of State announced an agreement between the American company Crusoe and the Paraguayan firm Araico. The pact calls for the use of electricity generated by the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, located on the Brazil-Paraguay border, to power an artificial intelligence facility in Paraguay.

The U.S. government said Crusoe, a specialist in superintelligence infrastructure, and Araico, focused on energy and infrastructure projects, have signed a strategic collaboration agreement. The goal is to build, beginning in mid-2027, a high-performance installation powered by electricity from the Itaipu hydroelectric plant.
According to the statement, the facility will be dedicated to cloud-computing services for clients in the United States and Latin America. U.S. officials indicated that the investment could rank among the largest private investments ever made in Paraguay.
The administration of the Itaipu plant is shared between Brazil and Paraguay, with each country receiving half of the generated power. The American release did not mention Brazil’s involvement in the project.
The announcement coincided with the visit of the U.S. State Department’s second-in-command to Paraguay, where he met with the Paraguayan president and the chancellor to deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
In addition to this deal, the United States announced another investment of $12 million by Uranium Energy Corp to develop a uranium concession in Paraguay.
