Does Uber work in the Triple Frontier? What works and what doesn't

Direct answer: Uber and 99 work normally in Foz do Iguaçu, including the airport, the Falls and Itaipu. No app crosses the border — a Brazilian driver cannot take you to Puerto Iguazú or Ciudad del Este. On the other side: Bolt and MUV operate in Ciudad del Este; in Puerto Iguazú the city blocks private-driver apps, and what exists is Uber Taxi, which sends a licensed city cab.

The question looks simple and has three different answers, one per country. It is the kind of thing that ruins a travel day: you order a car at the bridge, it gets cancelled, and you find out at the worst moment that the app does not go through there.

In Foz do Iguaçu: works well

Uber and 99 operate normally across the city. They cover the airport, the National Park entrance (the Falls), Itaipu, the Three Borders Landmark and both bridge approaches. They generally come in below taxi fares.

Where the app tends to fail in Foz:

• Leaving the Falls in the late afternoon, when everyone exits at once and supply dries up. At that hour, the Line 120 city bus or the taxi rank is faster.
• Late at night in outlying neighbourhoods, with long waits.

Crossing the border by app: not possible

This is the part that confuses people most. No app makes the international crossing here. It is not an app limitation: a Brazilian driver has no licence for international passenger transport, and the trip would be irregular on the other side.

In practice, if you try: either no car shows up, or the driver accepts and cancels once he sees the destination, or he drops you before customs. Plan for that, not for the exception.

In Ciudad del Este (Paraguay): it works

Here ride-hailing apps operate normally:

• Bolt, with its own operation in the city
• MUV, the Paraguayan app, which also covers Asunción and Encarnación

Alongside them, taxis and motorcycle taxis remain common on both sides of customs. The motorcycle taxi is quick through the shopping-district gridlock, but it carries only the passenger and a small bag: with a big purchase, it is no use.

In Puerto Iguazú (Argentina): Uber Taxi only

Puerto Iguazú's city government blocks private-driver apps. Regular Uber, DiDi and Cabify do not operate. The argument from the council and the taxi drivers is the gap in requirements: a local cab needs special insurance, a professional licence, technical inspection and a health permit, and an app driver does not.

What has existed since May 2025 is Uber Taxi: you book through the app, but a licensed city taxi arrives, on the taxi tariff. It suits anyone who would rather order from their phone than find a rank.

Beyond that, the city runs on taxis and remises, which also do transfers to the airport and to the Argentine National Park.

The strategy that works

1. Uber or 99 to the bridge approach — Tancredo Neves for Argentina, Friendship Bridge for Paraguay
2. Cross on foot — both bridges have pedestrian walkways
3. Continue on the other side with Bolt/MUV (CDE), Uber Taxi or a cab (Puerto Iguazú)

The simplest alternative: the international buses leaving from the TTU terminal in central Foz. Before you cross

Check the bridge queue now and, if you are shopping, how much you can bring back duty free. If you are in a rental car, confirm with the rental company first whether the contract allows leaving the country: most do not.
