Program accredits tourism businesses to serve Muslim visitors
Foz do Iguaçu formalized the Muslim Friendly Program on the night of August 26, an initiative that recognizes tourism companies prepared to receive Muslim travelers. The project, developed by the Islamic Beneficent Cultural Center in partnership with the City Hall, aims to establish the city as a national reference in this market segment.

The launch took place at the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque and gathered religious, governmental and tourism sector leaders, including the governor of the State of Paraná, Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior, and the secretary-general of the Union of Arab Chambers, Dr. Khaled Hanafy.
The program operates through a recognition seal that identifies establishments—hotels, restaurants and other tourism businesses—capable of meeting the specific needs of Muslim guests. With accreditation, Foz do Iguaçu joins an international network of destinations recommended by the Muslim community.
The city has one of the largest Muslim communities in Brazil, composed of families from various Arab nationalities. This cultural, religious and gastronomic heritage positions the municipality to capture one of the fastest-growing tourism segments worldwide—halal tourism moves millions of travelers with high spending potential.
Positioning work began on October 14, 2021, when Foz signed a Letter of Intent with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and CDIAL Halal. In 2024, the strategy advanced with the launch of the Muslim Friendly Guide. Now, the recognition seal represents the next stage in structuring an increasingly prepared tourism offering for Muslim visitors.
