New rules for cargo and passengers between Paraguay and Brazil

Expansion of Integration Bridge transit starting August 3

Starting August 3, the Integration Bridge, located at the height of Presidente Franco over the Paraná River, began allowing the transit of smaller cargo vehicles and passengers on the Presidente Franco–Foz de Iguazú line. Smaller cargo vehicles must enter and exit exclusively through this bridge between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, while the return with merchandise will continue via the Friendship Bridge.

The new modality also includes international urban passenger transport under local border transit regime. Exit and return can be optionally made via the Integration Bridge between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM upon presentation of the Local Border Transit Document. Passenger services in closed circuits that do not have Ciudad del Este or Foz de Iguazú as final destination must circulate exclusively via the Integration Bridge during 24 hours.

Additionally, the authorized time for crossing empty trucks will be expanded: these vehicles may use the bridge between 8:30 PM and 5:00 AM.

The director of Tax Revenue informed that the full opening of the bridge will not occur yet, as Brazil is working on setting up customs infrastructure. The works would be completed in the first quarter of 2027, allowing the definitive opening of the passage over the Paraná River.

The Paraguay Brazil Chamber of Commerce evaluated the measure as an advance for border integration and for the use of strategic infrastructure, with potential to improve mobility, facilitate logistics operations, and support the growth of bilateral trade.
